About Me

I am a historian of Canada, global migration and labour, and, as of August 2020, an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Classical Studies at McGill University.

I completed a PhD in history at the University of Toronto in 2019. In 2019-20, I was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at York University.

My current book project is Harvesting Labour: Tobacco and the Global Making of Canada’s Agricultural Workforce, under contract with McGill-Queen’s University Press.

An active public historian, I am an editor at Activehistory.ca and a founding member (and former executive committee member) of the Toronto Workers’ History Project. I write frequently for broader audiences and tweet @ehewey.
